ECHO

You are here Home  > Burlington Fun, Recreation and Whimsy >  ECHO

ECHO stands for Ecology, Culture, History and Opportunity. It is also known as the Lake Champlain Aquarium and Science Center. It’s a great interactive learning experience especially for children 5 to 13 years old, concentrating on the geology and ecology of the Lake Champlain basin. It is within easy walking distance of downtown hotels at the foot of College Street. ECHO is open year round, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., except Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve & Day. Paid admission allows you to leave and re-enter ECHO as many times as you would like until 5 p.m. They also conduct scientific research on the lake in collaboration with UVM and run special programs throughout the year. Executive Director Phelan Fretz is forever changing presentations and improving the program at ECHO. Check their website below for current information. The site that ECHO now occupies on the waterfront was formerly the Naval Reserve Station which completely excluded public uses. The Naval Reserve was relocated from this site largely through the efforts of U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy. ECHO is also a great community resource with space for large gatherings and community events year round.
