Local Motion is the local non-profit bicycle advocacy group in the Burlington area. They rent bicycles right on the side of the Burlington Bicycle Path a half a block south of College Street at the waterfront. Local Motion is the most effective bicycle advocacy group in the United States today. They extended the Burlington Bicycle Path northward across the Colchester Causeway to the Lake Champlain Islands. They put out an excellent trail map of the Island Line Trail for free. Visit their trailside office. They also run a bicycle ferry across the cut (or gap) in the Colchester Causeway that allows bicyclists to access the beautiful Lake Champlain Islands and back – over 25 miles round trip. Take a picnic lunch and rent a bike at Local Motion’s Trailside Office. They are a non-profit and they accept donations to the biking cause in Burlington.
